FAQ

  • Acupuncture therapy works by inserting very thin needles on the skin to hit the acupuncture points in the body to restore the balance between the yin and yang of a person’s life force (called “Qi” but read as “chi”).

However, in today’s practice, acupuncture is just a therapy to stimulate the sensory nerves under the skin using very thin needles. The stimulation of the sensory nerves affects the pain processing of the nervous system and the muscles. This also improves blood flow to the different parts of the body.

  • Before the actual acupuncture therapy, we’ll do a brief exam first so we can discuss your symptoms and health history. After that, the therapy session will last for 45 to 60 minutes.

During your acupuncture therapy, you may fall into a meditative state, as some patients do. Or you may feel energized after the therapy like other patients do.

If you’re trying acupuncture for pain relief, our acupuncturist will give you a treatment plan after your first therapy.

  • Depends on what you’re using acupuncture for but we’ve had patients who felt immediate relief after their first acupuncture therapy, while some needed several therapies before they felt noticeable results.

The frequency of acupuncture therapy also depends on the severity of your condition. In less serious cases, once a week for a few weeks is all they need. But in severe cases, twice a week for several weeks is recommended.
